Our staff at Granger Pediatric Dentistry want nothing but the best for you and your children, and we want to help you teach your kids how to take care of their teeth. Regular teeth cleanings and exams are very important in maintaining good oral health, and aids in preventing tooth and gum decay and disease. We recommend your child visits our office for a cleaning and exam once every 6 months to assist them in getting used to the routine of going to the dentist regularly. Appointments usually last about 30-60 minutes and consists of a cleaning, x-rays, and an exam. Parents can choose to either accompany their kids during the appointment, or they can stay in the waiting room.
Cleaning & Fluoride
The first part of the appointment will consist of a thorough cleaning and flossing by one of our dental assistants. We have a variety of flavors for toothpaste so your child can choose which one they want. During the cleaning, the dental assistant will discuss and show your child the proper way to brush and floss to make sure they are doing right at home. Following the cleaning, the assistant will apply a fluoride treatment to the teeth to help the strength of their teeth. This treatment is fast-acting, so they can eat and drink right after the appointment.
After the fluoride, our staff will then take x-rays of your kid’s mouth. These will be performed as needed so it may not be every appointment. We also take many safety measures to ensure your child is not exposed to radiation by using digital machines as well as using protective aprons and thyroid collars, and if you have any questions or concerns just let someone on our staff know and they will help you out. These x-rays are used to find cavities between teeth, check for bone disease, look for any injuries, as well as determine if there is a need for braces.
The last portion of the appointment will be an exam by our pediatric dentists. They will assess the child’s mouth and look at the x-rays. They will also take this time to discuss with you and your child about the importance of proper dental hygiene and taking care of their teeth, and if there are any problems.
